Port Blair, Oct 03: The “Swachhta Hi Sewa” campaign announced by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi was undertaken by the Andaman and Nicobar Command from 17 Sep to 02 Oct 17. The Campaign included tree plantation and cleanship of residential areas and office spaces by respective Components. In addition, a series of lectures / workshops on Sanitation and Hygiene were conducted. A demonstration of waste management was conducted by Defence Wives Welfare Association (DWWA) on the Segregated Waste Collection Centre.
Various components / ANC units extended their initiatives towards Swacchta at Viper and Ross Islands. Additionally, Coastal cleanship was carried out at beaches of Corbyn’s Cove, Wandoor, Chidyatapu and Kuruma Dera. The outlying units carried out Coastal cleanship at Diglipur, Carnicobar, Hutbay, Kamorta and Campbell Bay. Competitions were also conducted in Painting, Poetry writing, Essay writing and Poster making. The “Swachhta Hi Sewa” fortnight culminated with plantation of tree sapling by the Commander-in-Chief Andaman & Nicobar Command Vice Admiral Bimal Verma, AVSM, towards achieving greater green initiatives in these Islands.
