Port Blair, Sept 20: The Electricity Department today said that the department is taking all possible steps to reduce load shedding and normalize the power supply, especially in the wake of the Pujas.
However, owing to continuous running of the existing DG sets they are prone to fatigue and failure. One unit of Chatham Power House failed on 18.09.2017 but was repaired promptly by the staff & technicians of the Electricity Department and put on load yesterday i.e. 20.09.2017.
One unit was added at M/s Sudhir Ready Power Plant in the morning of 19.09.2017, but another unit caught fire in the afternoon the same day but the burnt generator was repaired by evening. The Generator of 2nd unit of M/s SPCL has been serviced and finally made ready w.e.f. 20.09.2017. The total output from this plant will now be 6.5 MW as against 3.5 MW being delivered earlier. The installation of the two units of M/s New Bharat Power Plant received on 12.09.2017 is under process and expected to be commissioned for delivering 2 MW power by 25.09.2017. Further, the plans to bring in new units and augment power supply by November, 2017, announced earlier are also on course.
The auspicious festival of Durga puja is approaching and the demand for electricity would go up. Hence, in order to minimise inconvenience to the public, the Electricity Department has appealed to all the Puja committees to install minimum decorative lights. Similarly, the public are also requested to use power supply judiciously.
All Govt. and Private Establishments, Hotels etc., having standby DG sets are strongly advised to run their DG sets from 1700 Hrs to 0000 Hrs so that the power supply is available to domestic consumers who deserve priority at this stage.
