Port Blair, Sep 17: To preserve the pristine beauty and ecology of these Islands, the Andaman and Nicobar Command is Conducting “SWACHHTA HI SEWA” cleanliness drive from 17th Sep to 02 Oct 2017. As part of Swachhta Abhiyan, activities that are scheduled to be conducted are drain cleaning, beach cleaning, debris removal, waste management programme and lectures on hygiene sanitation.
Towards this end on 17 Sep 2017 a cleanliness drive was organised by all the components of the Andaman & Nicobar Command. A total of 5000 personnel including families voluntarily participated in the cleanliness drive. All attendees were educated on the environment friendly practices of garbage segregation and effective disposal. Collected garbage was segregated as bio-degradable, recyclable and non- bio degradable for further disposal with the local Municipal Authorities. Special drive was initiated to encourage all family members to deposit segregated waste at (SWCC) Segregated Waste Collection Centres.
