Scheme (NSS) in South Andaman District was held today at JNRM Seminar Hall to discuss and chalk out various activities to be organized during the year 2017-18. The meeting was chaired by Shri.A.K.Trivedi, Joint Secretary (Hr.Edn) and Director (Sports and Youth Affairs) who is also the State NSS Officer. It was decided to organize a Mass Swachchta Sankalp Utsav, a Swachch Sankalp-Swachch Sidhi Awareness Rally and a seminar during the month of September-October. Speaking on the occasion Shri.A.K.Trivedi said that NSS needs to be made effective in its action and be visible not only in campuses but in the community as well. He said NSS should undertake programmes for caring of senior citizens also and take up measures for the youth of these Islands to make them aware about the ill-effects of tobacco and alcohol.
Dr.N.Francis Xavier, Principal,JNRM also spoke on the occasion and said that NSS should be made a forum for social change and development. He also enumerated the various activities undertaken by the NSS units of JNRM. Earlier, Dr.Kandimuthu NSS State Programme Co-ordinator in his welcome address spoke on the importance and working of NSS in A & N Islands. He said NSS is making way from college to village, community to campus and the knowledge to action through its volunteers. The NSS volunteer Miss T.Suprita moderated the entire meeting and the programme concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Dr.N.Lakshmi, Programme Officer, NSS from ANCOL.
