Port Blair, Sept 03: Villagers residing in the UP Tikrey Basthi area of Sippighat region has demanded stringent action against the illegal Earth Cutting gangs, who are cutting earth from their area and also damaging roads and water resources of the region.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Villagers of UP Tikrey said that already there is no blacktop road in their area since they have settled in the village, around 15-20 years ago and adding to their plight now the earthen road has also been destroyed by illegal Earth Cutting Gangs.
“There are many private agencies, who are illegally cutting earth from their area, that too in rainy season making it so difficult for the residents to even walk in their area. Worth sufferers are the village children who have to carry shoes in bag while crossing earthen road,” a villager said.
Further talking to Andaman Sheekha, a villager alleged that not only this they don’t even have any water connection following which they are totally dependent on a single village well but the illegal Earth Cutting by Private Agencies has also polluted the water in the Well.
Villagers are now demanding intervention of the new DGP and the Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman, in this regard and requested them, through media to find out the law breakers and take illegal action against them as such illegal acts of Earth Cutting Gangs is not only damaging ecology but also damaging the village infrastructure.
The Villagers later also pleaded the administration to construct a road for the village and provide tap connections, so that their life becomes a little easy.
