Port Blair, Sept 03: Story telling is a universal and traditional art form that featured strongly in Indian culture as an effective communication tool. It is used as a medium to ingrain values, improving reading skills and opening the minds of children to worlds beyond imagination.
A workshop for story telling was organized by Coastal Green Zone (CGZ), an initiative to protect coastal ecosystem, on Sunday, 3rd September, 2017 with the children of Ram Nagar and Sitapur village, Neil Island, South Andaman. Children found it really interesting and engrossed in the story of “Kottavi Raja and his sleepy Kingdom” which was told to them with creative gestures and facial expressions.
The appropriate use of voice modulation and body language infused passion, enhanced imagination and expression and introduced children to new horizons of storytelling by Kumari. NirbedaaSinha Roy, student of KV2, Minnie Bay, Port Blair. It was an interactive session where children were taught the right way of telling the stories. Overall that session helped the young souls for creative thinking.
On the second half of the session children got an opportunity to know and identify the flora and fauna of their surrounding and they found out how the animals and plants are inter-linked in their ecosystem, they expressed their observation through drawings, sketches and by writing reports. This programme helped to develop the listening, observation and imagination skills of children. Whole programme was arranged and co-ordinated by Mr.BikashMadhu,a teacher of Neil Island.
