Port Blair, Sep 01 : The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, N & M Andaman, celebrated “National Nutrition Week” with great zeal & enthusiasm on 1stSeptember 2017 by involving school students of Govt. Senior Secondary School, Rangatat ZillaParishad Community Hall, Rangat. The objective of the programme was to create awareness about the importance of nutrition for good health which has far reaching implications on economic growth and National Development. Shri. Satish Singh, Pradhan, Rangat was the chief guest of the function and while addressing the students he appreciated KVK, N & M Andaman for celebrating an event which is of National significance. Further, he requested the students to spread the knowledge that will be gained during the course of the programme among the family members & neighbours. The programme included interactive lectures, film shows &Quiz competition. Dr. Pooja Kapoor, SMS (Home Science), enlightened the gathering about the need of balanced diet & weight management for adolescent children. Dr. Shailesh Kumar, Sr. Scientist & Head(I/C), KVK N&M Andaman briefed about the supreme contribution of fish in promoting healthy life. Shri D. Basantia , SMS (Horticulture) discussed about the nutritional importance of fruits and vegetables in our daily diet. Dr.Shardul Vikram Lal, SMS (Animal Sc.) informed the children about nutritional requirements of milk and eggs in the diets. Er.Manoj Kumar, SMS(Agrl.Engg) briefed about Processing and Preservation of Foods .
A total of 270 students participated in the programme .In the concluding ceremony prizes were distributed to the winners of quiz competition.
The programme was organized under the supervision& guidance of Dr. Shailesh Kumar &Dr. A.Kundu, Director, CIARI, Port Blair.
