Port Blair, Aug 09: A rare and old manuscript of a literary work originally written in Sanskrit and based on Krishna-Gopika episode of Bhagabata discovered from Thiruvanantapuram University has been released recently in book form titled ‘Gopikonmada’ in seven languages together by the effort of Professor K.E. Radhakrishna , Executive member , NAAC on 6th August at the auditorium of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Bengaluru.
Dr. Jyotirmoy Roychowdhury, HOD, PG Department of Bengali and Dr. Mrs. N.Lakshmi , Assistant Professor, Hindi of JNRM have been honored in this unveiling ceremony as they have translated the book in Bengali and Hindi.
Simultaneously kannada , Tamil , Telugu, Tulu and Malayalam version of the book also unveiled in this occasion . Under the supervision of Professor K.E. Radhakrishna this huge task has been done and he took the initiative in this connection first.
Eminent personality Dr. G. Parameshwara , President of Karnataka Pradesh Congress and his wife Smt. Kannika Parameshwari were present on the stage along with all translators at the auspicious moment of unveiling . Dr. J. Alexander , IAS , Sri Ajay Kumar Singh, IPS , Sri A.B. Patil , Former Minster , Prof. Mallepuram G . Venkatesha , Former Vice Chancellor , Karnataka Sanskrit University and other dignitaries were also present in this occasion.
A Yakshagana ballet ( a kind of Karnataki ballet ) based on ‘Gopikonmada’, presented by ‘Yaksha Sangeet Nada Vybhavam , Udupi was the main attraction of the function . There are 131 slokas in two parts of ‘Gopikonmada’ titled ‘Prathamonmada’ and ‘Dwitiyonmada’ and it has been shown in these chapters that how the love, passion and madness of a Gopika named ‘Bhavana’ transformed into devotion gradually .
