Port Blair, July 14: As a part of celebration of 68th Van Mahotsav, a weeklong tree plantation programme has been started at Police Lines, Port Blair from 13/07/2017 so as to create awareness among the police personnel and general public about the importance of improving green cover.Port Blair, July 14: As a part of celebration of 68th Van Mahotsav, a weeklong tree plantation programme has been started at Police Lines, Port Blair from 13/07/2017 so as to create awareness among the police personnel and general public about the importance of improving green cover. Smti. Nuzhat Hassan, IPS, Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands inaugurated the said programme by planting a tree at Police Lines premises. She appreciated the programme and urged all to plant more and more trees which would not only meet the local needs but would also create a healthy, beautiful eco-friendly environment.The programme aims to plant nearly 500 different types of trees in and around Police Lines premises over a period of one week from 13/07/2017 to 19/07/2017. The saplings and seedlings have been provided by Forest Department of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. These include fruit bearing, flower bearing, shade bearing and various other variety trees.
