Port Blair, July 13: Mainland bound passenger vessel MV Swarajdweep that was on an anchor point near to Ross Island was hit by a dredging ship this morning at around11:30am.
It is learnt that the dredging ship that was anchored close to the passenger vessel on anchor, hit the passenger vessel following dragging of Anchor due to bad weather.
Sources said that crew of MV Swarajdweep ship responded well in advance and had warned the dredging ship about the anchor dragging.
No injuries have been reported in the incident but it is learnt that the port side of the ship sustained considerable damages. However actual damage assessment could only be done after the ship is brought to port.
The ship MV Swarajdweep, which is already out of action since past nearly one month because of technical problems in the engine, has now sustained more damages, which will certainly keep the ship away from service for some more time.
