Diglipur, July 8: A Chennai resident died at Ross & Smith Islands at Diglipur by drowning yesterday. A group of 7 tourists namely Dinesh Kumar, Sireesh, Ram, Ajay, Greeta, Ram Kumar and Santosh Kumar reached Port Blair on 7th July and same day proceeded to Diglipur and reached Diglipur late night.
On 8th July morning at 7.30am they proceeded to Ross & Smith Island after entry formalities.
After reaching they got divided into two groups, one group was enjoying at close sea and two people namely Santosh Kumar (28) r/o Velacherry and Ram Kumar (30) s/o Kannan R/o T.Nagar, Chennai were swimming at open sea. The life guards warned them to not to enter open sea side but both of them preferred to disobey.
Soon a big wave hit both, seeing this, the life guards swung into action. One of the Life Guards rushed to evacuate Santosh Kumar another went to Ram Kumar with speed boat.
After capturing both were brought to the shore where CPR was provided immediately. Santosh soon responded to the CPR but Ram Kumar did not respond. Soon both were immediately evacuated to CHC Diglipur.
At hospital Ram Kumar was declared brought dead and after some time Santosh fully recovered. Asst Commissioner Diglipur visited the hospital. After post mortem the staff of Tourism department, the members of boat association and Tamighar sangam made arrangements to transporting the body to Port Blair.
As the Mortuary Vehicle was not available at Diglipur it was brought from Mayabunder. The Tourists Association at Port Blair made arrangements to transport the body to Chennai the native of the deceased. It is for the first time that any tourist died in Diglipur Island.
It’s indeed a very tragic incident but the initiatives taken by the tourists dept., tourist association and local bodies for the pledged arrangement to transport the body of the decesed to his native place, proves in itself that the islanders are always ahead to respond for aid to their countrymen.

Certain places one should not play with life. Life Guards are posted for checking/protecting and giving warnings, People should learn to respect words.
Eg: Like in buses when one is standing near the entrance of the bus, the conductor words should be respected. Rules of the traffic/traffic signals/rules of law if respected then life is safe
