Drug abuse is one of the most serious health problems. Besides damaging health, it results in economic loss, anti-social behavior and overall downfall of the society.
On 2nd October 2016, the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, the A&N Administration announced the creation of Directorate of Prohibition. The primary objective of this Directorate is to conduct sensitization programmes and co-ordinate the activities with various departments such as Education, Health, Police, Rural Development, District Administration etc. for creating awareness among the people.
I am told that various awareness generation programmes and de-addiction camps are being organized regularly in the Islands which is very essential to curb the menace of drug abuse.
I call upon all the Islanders to support the initiative taken by the A&N Administration to ensure a safe and healthy society free from drug abuse and alcoholism.
