Port Blair, May 28: Revised method of Property Tax has been implemented by Port Blair Municipal Council w.e.f. 01.04.2017.This system is better than the earlier system because of being transparent, fair, citizen friendly and simple to understand. There is no need to visit PBMC office because the system provide for self-assessment and ease of payment.
The eligible persons can avail any of the following discounts:
1. 25% discount in case of the Residential Property recorded exclusively in the name of widow as per the Revenue Records.
2. 25% discount in case of the Residential Property recorded exclusively in the name of handicapped person as per the certificate issued by the Social Welfare Department.
3. 10% discount in case of the Residential Property recorded exclusively in the name of a female as per the Revenue Records.
Till 30.06.2017, a special rebate of 10% is also allowed for early payment. For the convenience of citizens, the AXIS Bank branches at Middle Point and BathuBasti have also been authorized to collect payment of Property Tax and self-assessment form. A special counter has been set-up at the Councilor Office of Ward No. 19 at BathuBasti.
A good number of citizens have already deposited their property tax since 1st April and about Rs. One crore has already been collected by the PBMC under the revised Unit Area system.
Mr. B.Eswar Rao, Chairman, PBMC has made a sincere appeal to all the citizens to clear their dues of property tax before 30.06.2017 and avail the special rebate of 10%. This rebate will not be available after 30th June and the citizens who miss this date will not only suffer financial loss but may expose themselves for actions as per the Property Tax Bye-Laws-1999. The Municipal Council is relying on the self-assessment by the Citizens and no scrutiny is being done at the time of deposit of property tax. Please don’t miss the golden opportunity and to avoid expected huge rush during the last week of June, immediately clear your dues of property tax.
