Port Blair, May 24: The Lt Governor, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, today held a review meeting on the power situation in the A&N Islands at the conference hall of Raj Niwas. He directed the Electricity department to shift the five 320 KVA DG sets, along with the power transformers from Havelock Island to Diglipur on war footing to tide over the shortage of power supply in North Andaman.
He also directed for earlier commissioning of the alternator at Diglipur. Directions were also given that the two DG sets in Rangat Bay to be put to load within two days. The repair work of DG sets at Chatham Power House and Recon proposal for DG sets at Phoenix Bay Power House to be taken up on priority.
Appeal should be made to the general public for judicious uses of power. Load shedding to be exercised throughout all areas including Bazaar & all the VIP areas and load shedding schedule to be prepared and informed to the general public through media release.
Further all the Hoteliers and big consumers who are having their own standby DG Sets should be requested to run their DG Sets during evening peak hours from 5.30 PM to 11.00 PM and help the Electricity Department to avoid the load shedding. The staff of respective site offices shall visit all the Hotels & Commercial establishments for necessary assistance.
Press note to be issued on demand side power management to the consumers for judicious use of power and to avoid use of high power appliances/Air conditioners during peak hours. All the high mast lighting system to be kept off during peak hours and Police Patrolling may be increased to prevent any mischief in dark areas.
