I am happy to learn that the Department of Environment & Forests, A&N Administration is celebrating the Earth Day on 22nd April, 2017 with the theme “Environment and Climate Literacy” along with rest of the world to generate awareness about the planet Earth.
The unsustainable exploitation of natural resources is adversely affecting the Earth’s environment. Today we are facing the impact of climate change in the form of unpredictable temperature and irregular weather pattern. Climate change if not addressed with firm resolve, may cause irreparable damage to this planet and the life it supports. Hence, we need to build a society where the citizens are environmentally literate. I am certain that Environmental and Climate Literacy will help the people to understand the nature and promote green technologies for sustainable economic development.
Andaman and Nicobar Administration is undertaking various measures for generating awareness towards protection of our planet Earth. On this occasion, I appeal to all the citizens of the Islands to spread the message regarding conserving energy, constructing eco-friendly houses and reducing emission of green house gases for creating a healthy living environment and for keeping our Islands clean and green.
