Port Blair, Mar 24: Headquarters, Andaman and Nicobar Command (HQANC) celebrated the WMO day on 23 Mar 17. The day is observed every year, to commemorate the formation of the World Meteorological Organisation, which was formed on this day in 1950. Each year, the WMO focuses on a Meteorological issue of global significance to human progress and promulgates a suitable theme to amplify its significance. The theme for the 67th WMO day, was “Understanding Clouds”, to highlight the enormous importance of clouds for weather, climate and water.
The occasion was celebrated at Command Meteorological Office, HQANC by conducting various activities such as painting, poster-making and debate/extempore competitions for service personnel. Presentations on various topics related to the pivotal role clouds play in issue of weather forecasts and warnings were also given. This was followed by an exhibition wherein the visitors witnessed various conventional and Modern Meteorological Equipment and the precise method for its usage and maintenance. The exhibition was also open for defence civilians and families of service personnel.
Chief Staff Officer (Operations), HQANC, the chief guest for the occasion, gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up of the various competitions.
