
Port Blair, Mar 02: Mr. B. Eswar Rao, Chairperson of PBMC has informed that the PBMC under the able guidance of the LG Prof. Jagdish Mukhi and the MP Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray the PBMC has taken many initiatives for transparent functioning and increase in the revenue of the Council which includes allotment of various properties/licenses through competing bidding process and computerization of major Octroi Collection points.
The PBMC has introduced the Unit Area Method of assessment which is the most transparent, fair, citizen friendly and professional way of assessment. Since there is no discretion with any of the Assessing Authorities there is no scope for corruption.
However to consider extending further relief to the citizens, a special meeting of the Council was convened on 11.02.2017 and a Committee under the Chairmanship of Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, the MP has been constituted to suggest modifications in the Property Tax. After getting report of the Committee, the Council will take a decision about changes in the Property Tax.
Mr. B. Eswar Rao further informed that the above initiatives of the PBMC have not only made the functioning transparent and fair but have also resulted in increase of Revenue.
For the welfare of Staff of the Council, a staff welfare fund has already been created for immediate help to family in case of sudden death of any staff and also to extend gift money for marriage of daughter of an employee of the Council.
Further considering that a large number of Casual Employees and DRMs are working in the Council, a meeting of the Council is being convened in next week to consider regularization of Casual/Work-Charge employees against the available vacant posts and Casual status to senior most DRMs of Sanitary Section, Works Section and of other Sections, a press release issued by Mr B Eswar Rao said here today.
