Port Blair, Feb 26: Mr. Bishu Pada Ray, the Member of Parliament has adopted the Shivapuram Grampanchayat, Middle Andaman under Saansad Aadarsh Gram Youjana (SAGY) and this Grampanchayat comprising five revenue villages namely Shivapuram, Thiruvanchikulam, Dharmapur, Padmanabhapuram and Panchawadi.
To assess the felt needs of the village people a group 16 students headed by Professor Mr. K.Venkatesan, HOD, Department of Home Science, JNRM are camping here for the last one week to conduct the baseline and door to door survey, visiting government establishments, private farms and agricultural land, anganwadi centre, police station, sub health centre etc.
Mr. Bishu Pada Ray, the Member of Parliament has visited Shivapuram today and interacted with the students and visited the field in which survey was done.
During the discussion he lauded the entire team of the Department of Homescience, JNRM and asked them to help the Shivapuram Grampanchayat to make as model village. The students has also done transect walk, rapid and participatory rural appraisal in order to assess the ground realities of the problem.
Mr. Bishu Pada Ray has also personally visited the houses where survey was conducted by the students and added tips to the group to concentrate sector wise like health & sanitation, education, employment, alcohol etc., Mr. Bishu Pada Ray has offered the students to take New Delhi to visit Parliament.
Mr. Lorentus Bara, Pradhan, Shivapuram Grampanchayat has thanked Member of Parliament for selecting this Grampanchayat under SAGY and informed the MP about the dedicated and tireless work rendered by the team of students. During the visit PRI members and general public accompanied Hon’ble MP.
