Port Blair, Feb 26: Unnati is working in partnership with Usha International Ltd, New Delhi and running 118 Silai schools in A&N Islands which trained more than 700 candidates. The trainees are being issued sewing machines at concessional raters.
A team of officials consisting of Dr. Priya Somaiya, Executive Director, Mr. Alok Shukla, Department Manager and Mr. Saiket Nasker, Manager Usha International Ltd, New Delhi visited A&N Islands on 22-02-2016 for expending their activities in various islands including opening of servicing and production centers for the benefits for trainees trained by Unnati for which they met and discuss with Chief Secretary and Secretary Industries.
They appreciated the work of Unnati in imparting training to rural women which enabled them to enhance their income through training activities.
On this occasion a valedictory function of training programme was also organized by Unnati supported by Usha International Ltd, New Delhi on 23-02-2017 at Dollygunj in Unnati’s food processing cum production centre. Mr. Udit Prakash Rai, Deputy Commissioner South Andaman was the Chief Guest and Dr. Priya Somaiya Executive Director Usha International Ltd, New Delhi presided over the function. While welcoming the dignitaries and the participants Smti. Shaima, Secretary Unnati also highlighted about activities of Unnati.
Mr. C. Mohammed, President Unnati explained in details various initiatives taken by Unnati for empowering women particularly through tailoring, fashion designing and food processing with the active support of Administration. On the request of Unnati the Chief Secretary and Secretary Industries also conducted meetings and resolved pending issues relating to marketing and quality training after hiring resource persons from mainland.
Smti. Meera Maurya, Smti. Tamilarasi and Smti. Monika Belung, trained and promoted by Unnati narrated their success stories and mentioned that skill and knowledge are the driving forces for economic growth and social development which they could equip and upgrade their skills in tailoring, fashion designing and food processing through the training imparted by Unnati and Usha International Ltd, New Delhi.
Miss. Reeta Devi, Women Welfare officer, Directorate of Social Welfare narrated the marketing support provided by the Social Welfare Department though sale- counter at Goal Ghar.
Mr. Saiket Naskar said that Usha International is also offering the fashion and advanced sewing courses in diploma certificate for those who want to learn creative items on Silai and embroidery.
Mr. Alok Shukla said that they are happy Silai schools are running successfully and through the training imparted by Unnati with the support of Usha International Ltd enhanced their income.
Dr. Priya Somaiya thanked A&N Administration for extending all support to Unnati for implementing the programmes of Usha International Ltd. She further said that they are planning to set up a service centre for repairing the sewing machines and also a production centre for providing starting income generating activities to the trainees. She also said that much can be done under Silai and fashion design sector because much of the readymade clothes are imported from mainland. She also mentioned the teachers trained by Unnati with the support of Usha International are talented and acquired very good skills to set up production units.
Mr. Udit Prakash Rai, Chief Guest extended congratulations to all of the pass out students present in the function and also appreciated Unnati for starting such useful programmes for empowering women. He emphasized that the completion of training is just the beginning of the journey in livelihood generation and the real test is to face competition and emerge as a winner in the market which could be achieve by them under the guidance of Unnati supported by Usha International Ltd.
