Port Blair, Feb10: The Valedictory function of the three-day workshop on “Financial Literacy for Women Students” from 08th to 10th February 2017 organised by the Department of Home science, JNRM with the financial support of NABARD, Port Blair was held on 10th February 2017 in the Lecture Gallery of JNRM.
Shri.S.Velliangiri IA&AS, Director of Audit, Office of the Principal Director, Port Blair, was the Chief Guest for the Valedictory function. He congratulated the participating students for taking keen interest in attending with a view to gain knowledge on financial literacy. Information has the potential to transform, and the youth especially students, have definite role, he added. He exhorted the students to utilise the potential of these islands for their betterment. He quoted the example of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, who was an islander himself. The students should get inspiration from such great personality and legend.
Shri.N.Kothandapani, Assistant General Manager, NABARD, Port Blair asked the students to develop individual social responsibility for nation development. He appreciated the involvement of students and said that skill development for the youth and women is the way for removing unemployment in the islands, he added.
Dr Francis Xavier, Principal, JNRM highlighted the recent scenario in women empowerment and he appreciated the culture of non formal education through which eminent speakers and resource persons from various quarters are interacting with students of JNRM.
Shri K Venkatesan, Assistant Professor & HOD, Dept. of Home science and Coordinator of this workshop gave a brief note by adding advancement of technology in rural development by quoting MGNREGA, NRLM etc.,

Ms.Priyanka Das of III B.Sc Home science, Ms.Mubasheera of III BBA and Ms.Shehnaz Begum of III B.Com shared their experience infront of the gathering. The programme concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Smt.Shalini Vijayalakshmi, Guest Faculty of Home science. Shri.Vaidyanath, AGM, Shri.N.Kothandapani, AGM, Ms Sabnam Bibi, Assistant Manager, NABARD, handled the class on Introduction of Financial Literacy, Need and Importance,
