Port Blair, Nov 24: At the Court of the Additional District Magistrate (Adjudicating Officer) under FSS Act’2006, the Additional District Magistrate has fined three Food Business Operators (FBOs) viz. Shri. K.S. Satya sheelan, Prop. M/s Kumaran & Sons, Babu Lane, Shri. Said Alvi, Prop. M/s Fasna Stores, School Line and Shri. M. Devender Rao, M/s Ananda Pan Shop, Ananda Restaurant complex, Aberdeen Bazaar for violations u/s 26(2)(iii), (iv), 26(3), 27(2)(e), 27(3)(b) and punishable u/s 55, 57(1)(ii) 58 and 63 of FSS Act’2006. The FBOs Shri KS Satya sheelan and Shri Said Alvi were fined Rs.30000/- each and Shri. M. Devendar Rao has been imposed a fine of Rs.5000/- for selling, storage, distribution of contraband tobacco products from their business premises.
As part of the IEC activity on ban of tobacco products, an awareness programme was conducted by the Food Safety Unit, South Andaman at Govt. Multipurpose School, Middle Point on Nov. 21. A power point presentation and a video clip on tobacco and its ill effects were presented to the 125 participating children including teachers. The programme was conducted by Shri. S.S. Santhosh and Smt. Sarina Nadeem, Food Safety Officers attached to Food Safety Unit, South Andaman.
Further all the food business operators have once again be warned not to stock, sale or distribute contraband products under ban throughout the A&N Islands and if seized from their possession, action deemed fit under Rules shall be initiated under FSS Act.
