Port Blair, Nov 21: Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) will be conducting the second Coastal Security exercise ‘Sagar Kavach’ (A&N) of the year 2016 on 22 & 23 November 2016. The bi-annual Coastal Security Exercise which was earlier termed as ‘Tat Suraksha’ has now been renamed as Sagar Kavach to maintain uniformity at Pan India Level. This edition of the Coastal Security Exercise will be 14th in the series in the A&N Islands Region. Validation of SOPs for Coastal Security of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and joint co-ordination of various drills and contingencies between various maritime stakeholders are the core issues being addressed during the exercise.
In this exercise, all components of the Andaman and Nicobar Command, A&N Administration, A&N Police, Police Marine Force (PMF), Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn), CISF, Customs, Fisheries department, Forest department, Port Management Board (PMB), Directorate of Shipping Services (DSS), Director General Lighthouse and Lightships (DGLL), SIB, Special Bureau and other agencies will be exercised to validate SOPs and rehearse drills and contingencies.
During the exercise, the local populace will also be sensitised about the coastal security mechanism of A&N Islands and the usage of Toll free telephone numbers 1554 (Coast Guard) and 1093 (Police) for reporting Coastal Security issues.
