No life-guard; No first aid
Port Blair, June 03: The body of Ayyanuthu Iyer Ramakrishnan, a tourist from West Mamblam, Chennai was sent back to Chennai by Jet Airlines today. According to sources, Late Ramakrishnan died yesterday of Cardiac Arrest, while he was snorkelling at North Bay beach of South Andaman.
“The incident happened yesterday at around 3.00 pm and immediately he was rushed to nearby Hospital, where he was declared brought-dead. The Post Mortem was carried out this morning and after that the body was sent to Chennai,” Mr. M Vinod the President of Association of Tour Operator (ATO) told ‘Andaman Sheekha’ today.
Late Ramakrishnan, a senior officer in a Singapore based company at Chennai, was holidaying in Andaman and Nicobar Islands with his wife and two children.
According to Police, Late Ramakrishnan, 50 years, already had an open heart surgery in June last year.
“This is not the first such incident. Last year also one tourist had died at North Bay beach due to heart attack. The Tourism Department must seriously think about posting some life guards at the beach, who can give first aid to tourists, in distress,” the ATO president added.
