Port Blair, Nov 4: The President, Pradesh Congress Committee, Mr Kuldeep Rai Sharma has taken up the issue of filling up about 140 Work Charge Mazdoor (WCM) posts lying vacant in the Port Blair Municipal Council since long with the Secretary, Municipal Council. Mr Sharma urged the Secretary, PBMC to initiate immediate action to fill up all these vacant Work Charge Mazdoor posts from amongst the eligible daily rated mazdoors working under the Council since long. In his letter, Mr Sharma said that the jurisdiction of Port Blair Municipal Council has been extended by incorporating adjoining revenue villages and the number of wards was increased from 18 to 24 . The new areas included into the municipal limits recently requires special attention since these areas were remain undeveloped compared to other wards of the council. Sanitation as well as civic amenities in the new wards are far from satisfaction. Keeping the wards hygienic and providing better civic amenities to the citizens are the basic duties of the council. It appears that the workman force deputed in wards for sanitation and other works are not sufficient to cope up with the work load. Mr Sharma requested the Secretary, PBMC to take appropriate action to deploy sufficient number of workers/employees in the new wards of the Council for better sanitation and speedy execution of other developmental works. Mr Sharma also urged the PBMC Secretary to initiate necessary steps to fill up other vacant posts in the Council.
