Port Blair, Nov 01: Since the appointment of Mr. Uttam Kumar Paul as Superintendent Engineer, he has been found shying away from media, perhaps because of his failure to run the massive department, in a professional manner.
After Mr. Paul took over, the department has virtually collapsed with reports of power crisis in every corner, mismanagements in system and deaths of staffs due to negligence.
Sadly in a country like India, where even Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains answerable to media and public, the SE of electricity thinks otherwise. He prefers to stay away from public issue and media questions.
Andaman Sheekha team tried to meet the SE two dozen times to get his comment on crucial issues of electricity and everytime, he replied through his PA that he is either busy or out of station.
Finally Andaman Sheekha team met the Secretary of Electricity Department Mr. Sanajy Khirwar and communicated this issue.
Showing deep respect for the system, the Secretary immediately directed the SE electricity to meet the team of Andaman Sheekha and reply to all questions but even after atleast one dozen attempt in last 20 days the SE electricity preferred to ignore Secretary’s directions.
This clearly shows that the present SE has no respect for the system, public issues, media and his senior officers.
Perhaps this is the reason why the Electricity Department has failed to serve people of these islands in a professional manner.
