Port Blair, June 01: In 2009, the Indian Council of Medical Research established a Tribal Health Research Forum to bring focus on special health issues pertaining to the tribal communities of this country, with special reference to translational science and implementation research. Since inception, four meetings have been held at different Institutes/Centres of ICMR on the mainland. The firth meeting is scheduled to be held at the Conference Hall of RMRC, Dollygunj on 2nd and 3rd June 2012. The main theme of the meeting is ‘Practices by tribal people with regard to herbal medicine’. The meeting will commence on 2nd June at 11:30 a.m. Dr. V.M. Katoch, Secretary, Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India and the Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research will chair the meeting.
About 35 delegates including Directors/Directors in-charge/Scientists/Administrative personnel from different ICMR Institutes/Centres located in different parts of the country will be participating the meeting. Deliberations will be centered on herbal medicine and traditional practices of the indigenous communities, communicable and non-communicable diseases, nutrition and other health issues. There would be presentations by distinguished Directors and Scientists of ICMR institutes on research undertaken on several common areas in order that the health of the indigenous communities gets prioritized.
