Port Blair, Oct 24: The Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works (ALHW) here celebrated its 51 Annual Day on Saturday. The cultural programme started with lighting the traditional lamp by the chief guest and other dignitaries. Mr T.N. Krishnamoorthi, Deputy Chief Engineer (Civil) was the chief guest of the function.
In his address, Mr T.N. Krishnamoorthi, Deputy Chief Engineer (Civil) mentioned that the officers and staff have set an example by participating in various outdoor and indoor games with more enthusiastically along with the day-today official works. He also mentioned that though the ALHW has created various landing facilities, still more facilities are to be constructed in future. Welcoming the gathering, Mr D. Sathyamoorthy, Deputy Chief Engineer (Mech) (President, ALHW Recreation Club) mentioned that the pioneers of ALHW had created the basic landing facilities in Andaman & Nicobar Islands braving hardships and bottlenecks during the initial period and brought the name of ALHW on top. He urged the officers and staff to maintain the same tempo in future also.
Mr S.K. Rai, Administrative Officer (ALHW) had added special flavor to the cultural programme. Prizes were distributed to the winners and runners of various games conducted such as Carrom, Chess, musical chair, throw ball, Tug of War etc. and also to the participants of cultural programme. As part of the celebrations, a Blood donation camp was also organized on 20-10-2016 in coordination with the G.B. Pant Hospital in which 45 staff had participated out of which 37 had donated the blood. At the end, Smt. Mamta Jijith, Executive Engineer (Civil) gave the vote of thanks.
Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works (ALHW), Port Blair was established by the Ministry of Shipping and Transport on 22nd October, 1965 for creating and maintaining the landing facilities such as Jetties, Harbours, Breakwaters, Wharves, Slipways, Bridges and allied structures in Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep Islands.
