Port Blair, Oct 24: Police commemoration day was celebrated at Government Sr. Sec School, School Line on Oct 21. As part of it various activities were organized to mark the occasion and pay tribute to Saheed Rajesh Kumar, the ex-student of this institution who made supreme sacrifice of his life in an encounter with terrorists while executing his duty as Constable in Central Reserve Police Force.
A rally was organized from school to Minnie Bay junction and back. Students were carrying the commemorative inscription cards appraising the achievements of Saheed Constable Rajesh Kumar. After Rally, a function was organized in the school wherein, Saheed Constable Rajesh Kumar was remembered and floral tributes were paid to him. In the function, uncle of Rajesh Kumar Dr. B. Mahato, Rtd. Director- Animal Husbanday & Veterinary Service, A & N Administration and Mr Sanjeet Kumar, Assistant Commander, CRPF- Port Blair unit, PBMC Ward councilor Mr . C. H. Babu and officials of the Education Department were present. On behalf of the school, a momento and an honour letter was handed over to Uncle of the Martyr.
Saheed Rajesh Kumar was the student of GSSS- School Line in the year 1987. He completed his Secondary Education from the school and joined CRPF in the year 1988. Immediately after completion of training Saheed Rajesh Kumar was posted at Anantnad District of Jammu & Kashmir. On 5th December, 2000, in an encounter with the terrorists, he fought till his last breath and made extreme sacrifice of his life for the safety, security and protection of country.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Sanjeet Kumar, Assistant Commander, CRPF- Port Blair unit briefed the history of CRPF and importance of celebration of Commemoration Day. Applauding the bravery of Saheed Rajesh Kumar, Assistant Commander called upon the students to work for the glory, progess and protection of mother land. Appreciating the activities of the institution, Shri. C. H. Babu, Councilor said that it is a matter of proud for the school that Saheed Rajesh Kumar was the student of GSSS- School Line. Students should take lesson from the hight of commitment and dedication, Rajesh Kumar had for the country.
Mr Sharad Chandran, Vice Principal of the institution detailed the heroic act of Saheed Rajesh Kumar and said that feeling of “Country is our’s and we are for the country” can motivate our every action in the welfare of the country and its progress. He said that it doesn’t matter in which field we are working; our every work/activity should be directed towards Health-Wealth-safety-security & Prosperity of the country.
