Port Blair, Oct 17: World Food Day – 2016 was conducted by HORTISAN and ARPAN in association with NABARD and Gram Panchayat, Mannarghat. The program was well attended by the villagers and farmer community in large numbers.
In a solemn function held in the premises of community hall, Mannarghat on 16th Oct’2016, the Producer Organization Promoting Institution (POPI), ARPAN and HORTISAN launched its first company of farmers “Island Organic Producer Company”. This was one of the two Farmer Producer Organization sanctioned by NABARD. The other being “A&N Farm Honey Producer Company”.
In an interactive session, the villagers were sensitized on organic method of farming and its benefits at large by officers of NABARD, Agriculture Department, CIARI and Health Department.
The Pradhan, GP Mannarghat on his behalf awarded five best organic producer farmers of Gram Panchayat Mannarghat and adjoining areas.
The program was graced by the Shri. Hemant Songadkar, GM NABARD, Shri. Murli, DGM NABARD, Shri. Anjan Kumar Das, Director Agriculture, Shri. R Y Singh, Joint Director, Agriculture, Shri. Ramesh Kumar, Dy. Director Agriculture, Dr. Vel Murugan, Sr. Scientist deputed by Dr. Dam Roy, Director, CIARI, Shri. Ashraf, Health Educator, Dr. TV R Sharma, Retd. Principal Scientist, CIARI, Shri. M A Salam, Ex-Director, Agri. Shri. N M Bashir, Chairman, ARPAN and Shri. K Abdul Basheer, Director, Island Organic Producer Company.
The Program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Shri. O Basheer, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Mannarghat.
