It gives me immense pleasure to know that the World Rabies Day will be observed in this Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands along-with rest of the World on the theme “Educate, Vaccinate, Eradicate”.
Rabies is a highly fatal disease of human and all other warm blooded animals. Though there is no known cure, the disease can be prevented by vaccination. World Rabies Day is celebrated every year on 28th September to commemorate the death anniversary of Louis Pasteur who developed the first efficacious rabies vaccine.
I am glad to know that this Island territory is free from Rabies. I appeal to all animal welfare activists, animal lovers, animal welfare organizations and the professionals from Public Health and Veterinary sector to sensitize the public on the issues related to control of Rabies and to educate the people on the significance of prevention of the disease.
I am confident that with our combined effort we can continue to keep the territory free from Rabies for the future generations.
I extend my best wishes to the Global Initiative to end Rabies forever.
