Port Blair, May 29: The Director General of Police has awarded Class-I Commendation Certificate and Rs 2,500/- to four islanders as a reward for their outstanding and gallant act.
On 3rd May, 2012, these three Islanders, Mr. Subhash S/o Late Mr. Edward, Mr. Abhioo S/o Late Mr. Kosukao, Mr. Watson S/o Mr. Abhioo and Mr. Kyan S/o Mr. Nehoye residents of Great Nicobar were fishing when they spotted eight Myanmarese Poachers inside the jungle at Afrabay, Great Nicobar. The four citizens, in spite of being out-numbered two to one, challenged them and ran forward and apprehended three poachers, while the rest of the poachers managed to escape. The three apprehended poachers were tied with topes, brought to Campbell Bay in their engine dinghy and handed over to the Police.
Even though the number of poachers were double their own strength, the above persons showed extreme courage and fearlessness in apprehending the poachers even at the risk of their lives.
