Double standard or pure negligence??
Mayabunder Correspondent
Mayabunder, May 28: The District Administration of North and Middle Andaman today conducted a major eviction drive at Mayabunder as per the order of Hon’ble High Court of Calcutta (Circuit bench) at Port Blair to evict his land vide latter No. 8-3859/2010-legal date 8/05/2012. By using his power U/S 202 of LR & LRR 1966 the revenue officers of Mayabunder Tehsil issued a notice to the occupants of said land bearing Sy. No. 148, 149 & 152/4 to vacate on or before 20th May 2012 by order No 50 dated 16/05/2012. Later on Humanity Ground the date was extended to 28 May 2012.
This morning Revenue officers along with Police personnel and their machineries reached the spot and started their eviction work at about 09.40 hrs. During the eviction drive 8 shops including one Sangam of a particular community was demolished completely. The eviction works were performed smoothly and no shopkeepers protested against the order.
However, Andaman Sheekha on May 21, 2012 had highlighted how a children’s park was encroached by a few encroachers, under the caption “Children’s Park Vanishes from Mayabunder” but those encroachments were not removed by the District Administration.
However reason behind this double standard is not yet known. It is believed that law should be equal for everybody and the District Administration must clarify why eviction was carried out on some area while in other areas encroachments were not removed.
