Port Blair, Sept 9: The Directorate of Health Services, A & N Administration will implement the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyaan (PMSMA) throughout the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India, New Delhi has launched Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyaan (PMSMA) to provide quality Antenatal care services to all pregnant women across the country.
Under the campaign, a minimum package of Antenatal care services will be provided to the beneficiaries on the 9th day of every month at the Pradhan Mantri Matritva Surakshit clinic to ensure that every pregnant woman receive at least one check-up in the 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy. If the 9th day of the month is a Sunday/a holiday, then the Clinic should be organized on the next working day. The PMSMA Clinic will provide all the essential maternal health services at identified public health facilities as well as accredited private clinic and institutions volunteering for the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyaan (PMSMA). Essentially these services will be provided by the Medical Officer and OBGY specialists. Facilities where such trained manpower is not available, services from private practitioners on volunteering services basis will be arranged. PMSMA will help providing quality ANC and also detection, referral treatment and follow up of high risk pregnancies and women having complication.
During the campaign, trained service provider and ASHA will focus their efforts to identified and reach out to pregnant women who have not registered for Antenatal Care (ANC) (left out and missed ANC) and also those who have register but not avail services (drop out) as well as high risk pregnant women. It will also be ensured that not only all pregnant women complete their schedule ANC visits but also undertake all essential investigations. While 9th of every month will be organized as a special day, the routine and planned services such as Antenatal Care (ANC), Postnatal Care (PNC) etc. will continue to be delivered at all the facilities as scheduled in their respective micro-plans.
