BJP fumes over petrol price hike; calls Andaman Bandh on May 31
Port Blair, May 28: Expecting ‘tremendous’ response from general public for Andaman Bandh on 31 May 2012, BJP’s Andaman and Nicobar State Unit today demanded immediate roll back of petrol prices.
Addressing a press conference at BJP Bhawan of Port Blair the State Treasurer of local BJP unit Mr. R Vimod today condemned the steep hike in petrol prices and spiraling prices of commodities.
Giving details about the dawn-to-dusk Bandh on May 31 the BJP unit told media that the 12-hour Bandh will begin at6 am, but will, however, exclude emergency services. The Andaman Bandh will be a part of the Bharat Bandh called by the NDA against petrol price hike.
“The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strongly condemns the move. The Congress-led UPA Government is playing with the emotions of the common man. Every time there is a hike in petrol prices, the prices of other essential commodities go up adversely. It is the common man that has to bear the burden of the hike,” Vimod added.
The BJP however mentioned that the Bandh will be peacefully organized.
“People living inNew Delhishould know that the steep hike in petrol prices pinch common man badly even in remote Andaman and Nicobar Islands. We believe that the Congress, which talks about the common man, has now gone far away from them,” Mr. Anil Kumar Tiwary, State Secretary of BJP unit said during the press conference.
