Port Blair, Aug 22: In a swift operation, Indian Coast Guard Ship Rajveer under took a medical evacuation at high seas from a Motor Tanker ‘Qi Lian San’ on Sunday. The vessel was transiting through Andaman sea from Taiwan to Iraq. A sailor onboard Mr. Lu Wei a 26 years old Chinese National reported severe abdominal pain lost consciousness. The vessel contacted Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Port Blair for assistance.
On receipt of information, Tele-Medical advice was administered by The Coast Guard Regional Medical Officer and vessel was directed to proceed towards Campbell Bay. Coast Guard Ship Rajveer in area was diverted to evacuate the patient. The Coast Guard Ship rendezvoused the motor tanker and embarked the patient off Campbell Bay at mid night of 20/21 Aug 16. The medical team onboard the Coast Guard ship also administered first aid to the patient. Subsequently the vessel entered Campbell Bay harbour 2.55 am on Sunday and transferred the patient at Primary Health Centre (PHC) Campbell Bay.
The doctors at PHC advised to shift the patient immediately to Port Blair due to non availability of required medical facility. The patient was air lifted to Port Blair Am 21 Aug 16 by Coast Guard Dornier Aircraft and admitted at GB Pant hospital Port Blair for further medical treatment. The Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre at Port Blair has saved 520 lives of mariners and fishermen during the last 05 years including 33 lives in 2016.
