Port Blair, Aug 21: ICGS Aruna Asaf Ali conducted a special Community Interaction Programme recently at Burma Nallah, Chidiyatapu. The ship liased with local fisheries officials for arranging and conducting the event. Smt Shaanti, Gram Pradhan and Mr Pradeep Kumar, Panchayat Secretary along with 25 local fishermen attended the community interaction programme. They were briefed on safety measures at sea and use of safety equipments and gears. The importance of being in possession of life saving equipment & first aid kit was emphasized and the use of Distress Alert Transmitters was demonstrated. The fishermen were elucidated on the role of Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre for safety of life at sea and emergency helpline number 1554.
