Port Blair, Aug 1: The Directorate of Health Services will observe National De-worming Day on Aug 10, 2016 followed by Mop-up Day on Aug 17 to intensify efforts towards Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) control among the children in India.
The objective of NDD is to De-worm all preschool and school age children (enrolled, Non-enrolled) between ages of 1-19 years through the platform of Govt. Schools and Govt, aided schools and anganwadi centers to improve the overall health, nutritional status, access to education and quality of life of children. The NDD is a day when all children between the ages of 1-19 years receive treatment for intestinal worms from teacher at Govt, schools, Govt, aided and private schools and by anganwadi workers in anganwadi centers. In order to effective implementation of the NDD training programme will be organized for the key functionaries like teachers, ANMs, ASHAs to brief about implementation of NDD activities on Aug 10 followed by Mop up Day (MUD) on 17th August, 2016.
All parents and teachers have been requested to ensure that all the children between age group of 1-19 years are provided Albendazole tablet and syrup on Aug 10 from their respective schools, anganwadi centers. The unregistered children especially preschool children and non-enrolled in schools will be administered Albendazol tablet/syrup by ASHAs of concerned areas.
