Port Blair, July 21: The Lt. Governor, A & N Islands has accorded in– principle approval for organizing Swachhtha Utsav on Aug 14, 2016 for making Port Blair city ‘Swachh’ before Independence Day.
Consequent to the approval, the Project Management Unit of Port Blair Municipal Council prepared a consolidated plan of action ensuring involvement of 5671 participants covering the entire municipal area for the Swachhtha Utsav and targeting the existing world record of 5000 participants involved in sweeping at Kumbh Mela 2016, Ujjain.
In the first round, a consolidated plan was presented in a meeting on Wednesday held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (SA) and in the presence of representative of 45 organisations and departments. All stakeholders appreciated the efforts made by PBMC to lay down such a base plan before the forum.
The Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman explained the representatives about their roles and informed that the entire municipal wards have been divided in 12 blocks for the Swachhtha Utsav. Further DC (SA) invited comments and requested for their involvement in the utsav for its grand success for making these islands a prominent entity in the International arena in the area of Swachhtha.
The DC (SA) conveyed that the Swachhtha Utsav is an effort to spread the message of sustained cleanliness and solicited the cooperation of all stake holder departments besides motivating the residents of Port Blair Municipal Council to join hands for the cause.
