Port Blair, July 20: A mass tree planting ceremony was organized by Forest Extension & Publicity Division at Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Port Blair on 20th July 2016. Ms. Nabanita Ganguly, Divisional Forest Officer, Forest Extension & Publicity Division was the chief guest on the occasion. The Principal, Dr. Dheeraj Kumar welcomed the chief guest & participants.
Addressing the participants, the chief guest informed that it is heartening to note that the school is well oriented towards plantation activities, safeguarding the environment and conservation issues. The chief guest recommended the students to take care of the plantation by adopting a plant by each one of them and to take care of it till it is well established. She said that our islands are blessed because of the abundance in rain & soil fertility. The crucial time to aid support to the plants is during the summer period by providing them with enough water for their survival and to loosen the soil during rainy season to prevent water logging. Further she urged the students to take care of the new plantation by rendering their 100% effort towards their care and protection and also assured to render technical assistance to the school for taking up any sort of plantation activities in their premises in future.
