Port Blair, July 11: The Ministry of Road, Transport, Highways and Shipping has instructed National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation to appoint 25 consultants for studying the possibilities and various other aspects for construction of Chatham-Bambooflat Bridge.
Addressing a press conference held at the MP Office this afternoon at 03:30pm the Member of Parliament Mr Bishnu Pada Ray said that earlier the Ministry had appointed only two consultants to study the possibilities and various other aspects related to the Chatham-Bambooflat Bridge but recently the Ministry had instructed the NHIDCL to appoint 25 experienced consultants from all over the globe to study the possibilities and various other aspects for construction of Chatham-Bambooflat Bridge.
Later the MP said that the six state highways of the islands has converted to National Highways i.e Hutbay up to 22 kms, Havelock that consists of two state highways of 20 kms has been converted to National Highway, State Highway of Neil Island has been converted to National Highway and a total of 90.70 kms at Diglipur has been converted to National Highway for which a team of experts will be coming to the islands soon to further proceed with the project.
He further said that for Sainik School in the islands the Defense Minister, Mr Manohar Parikar has asked the administration to write a letter to the Home Minister asking for the funds for Sainik School and further he will proceed with the project and will extend full support for the Defense Ministry.
