Port Blair, July 06: The Superintendent of Police, Traffic Unit, Port Blair, Mr R K Pandey has urged the general public of the islands to show some moral responsibility while using the road.
During a press conference held at the office of the District Police, Mr Pandey said that till date more than 29000 challans has been imposed while last year it was about 26000 and around 49 lakhs has been collected by the Traffic unit as challan which is a very bad sign in such a small island like Andaman especially Port Blair City.
He said that traffic unit does not want to prosecute anybody but even after good literacy rate in the islands the people are very careless which ultimately results in accidents.
“If the parents give some time to their children, put some efforts and educate their children to drive safely will be very effective,” Mr Pandey said. He further said that there is no harm if the pillion rider wears a helmet instead it is his safety in road if he wears a helmet. “I urge all the people of the islands to park their vehicles in the parking place and walk at least some distance to reach where they want to, it will beneficial for the public as their will be no traffic jam due to obstructive parking,” Mr Pandey added.
However, Mr Pandey said that compared to last year the ratio in accidents has come down from 141 to 118.
