Port Blair, July 05: Butterflies organized a workshop on journalism, radio programme and print media on 29th -30th June at Prerna Deep, Port Blair. Around 45 children and 30 staff from South, North and Little Andaman participated benefited of training. Entire workshop was based on participatory methods and activity based, the workshop enabled the children to gain the skills, knowledge and confidence to be a child journalist.
Ms. Rita Panicker, Executive Director – Butterflies and Mr. Jovin George, Coordinator-Media programmes from Delhi were handled the sessions. The major concepts handled were: basics of news paper publishing, roles and responsibilities of a reporter and editor, how to write good articles, importance of Radio programme, how to take interviews, information gathering, code of ethics, etc. These sessions enabled children to bring out with a creative and informative newspaper called ‘Andaman Nicobar Children’s Times’ (ANCT) and Community Radio Programme. Production of children’s own newspaper and Radio Programme will help children to share their views and experiences on issues that affect them in islands.
At the beginning of workshop Mr. Sino P Kurian, Programme Manager extended warm welcome to everyone and also shared the objectives of the workshop.
