Port Blair, June 27: The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, N & M Andaman, organized a three days training programme from 21st to 23rd June, 2016 on ‘Use of gravity-fed drip irrigation system in plantation crops’ for practicing farmer and farm women at Sabari, Gram Panchayat, Middle Andaman. The training was inaugurated by Shri Madhab Mall, Pradhan, Sabari in presence of Up- Pradhan, PRI members and others. In his inaugural speech Pradhan appreciated all the efforts taken by KVK, N & M Andaman for organizing the above training and also urged the trainees to adopt the techniques of gravity-fed drip irrigation system in plantation crops during dry season.
Er. Manoj Kumar, Course Co-ordinator/ SMS (Agril. Engg) briefed about the objectives of the training programme and Dr. Shardul Vikram Lal briefed about activities of KVK being carried out in N&M Andaman district. Topics covered in the training include Mulching system in plantation crops, Importance of micro irrigation system, rain water harvesting structures & micro irrigation system etc. Demonstrations were made on different parts of drip & sprinkler system, installation of gravity fed-drip irrigation system for adoption of efficient water management practices. Film shows were also screened to impart detailed understanding about Water Harvesting Structures and drip & sprinkler systems. A total of 29 practicing farmer and farmwomen participated in the training programme.
The training was organized under the supervision and guidance of Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK, N&M Andaman and Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director, CIARI, Port Blair.
