Port Blair, June 24: Suddenly there is a jump in the incidents of sighting of King Cobra in Port Blair city. As per experts such increase in number of sighting is not a good indication for ecology.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha an expert of snakes, who does not want his name to be quoted, said that presently this is not the season for the snakes to come out, just because the greenery of the islands is completely lost, the snakes are coming out and looking for safe shelter and those are residential area. This is a dangerous sign.
“If the population of the snakes will keep on decreasing, the population of rats will increase which will in future definitely lead to too many diseases. It seems that the food chain of these Islands has been disturbed,” he said.
As per reports, it is not the season but even though since last two months more than 8-10 King Cobra snakes were rescued from these Islands.
It is also learnt that from last 4-5 months more than 30 snakes, mostly King Cobra Snakes were rescued by the forest Department.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha today, Mr Manjit Singh, Deputy Ranger, Snake Squad urged the people that if sighted not to try any stunt with the snake. He urged the people to just keep a watch if snakes are sighted and inform the snake squad at 03192245229 (24 hours helpline).
