Port Blair, Apr 25: The Indonesian Navy and the Indian Navy have been carrying out coordinated patrolling twice a year since 2002 near the International Maritime Boundary Line to keep this vital part of the Indian Ocean Region safe and secure for commercial shipping and international trade.
The 27th series of India – Indonesia Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) will be conducted from 28 Apr to 19 May 16, which includes opening ceremony of CORPAT at Port Blair from 28 – 30 Apr 16 and Closing Ceremony at Belawan, Indonesia from 16 – 19 May 16. The Indonesian Navy is being represented by KRI Imam Bonjol and Maritime Patrol aircraft CN 235 whilst INS Karmuk and one IN Dornier are participating from the Indian Navy. A high level Indonesian delegation for the 27th CORPAT would be visiting Port Blair during the opening ceremony whilst the Indian Delegation headed by Commodore Girish Kumar Garg, Naval Component Commander and Commodore Flotilla, Andaman & Nicobar Command, in company with INS Karmuk and IN Dornier Aircraft will be visiting Belawan for Closing Ceremony of the CORPAT.
The aim of the coordinated patrol is to enhance mutual understanding and inter-operability between the navies, prosecute vessels engaged in unlawful activities, conduct SAR and take measures against sea pollution.
The CORPAT reflects the shared concern between the two countries for a peaceful Indian ocean for the benefit of international community.
