Port Blair, April 20: Acting on the instructions of the Commissioner Food Safety, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, a squad comprising of District Food Safety Officer and Food Safety Officers proceeded to Little Andaman recently to carry Food Safety activities and altogether 16 Food Business Operators were compounded for violation of different sections of Food Safety & Standards Act, 2016 and a fine of Rs. 1000/- each were imposed on them for 1st offence and an amount of Rs. 16,000/- was realized. One Food Business Operator was booked under Section 55 & 56 of Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006 for violation of section 23, 26 (3) & 27 (3) (a) & (b), and the process for adjudication is under way.
On Wednesday in the court of Additional District Magistrate, South Andaman, a Food Business Operator of Ratnam Market was adjudicated and a fine of Rs. 5000/- was imposed for violation of section 26(2) (e), 27 (3) (a) & 27 (3) (b) of Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006.
Meanwhile on 07-04-2016, in the court of District Magistrate, North & Middle Andaman District Mayabunder, one Food Business Operator of Diglipur was fined and sum of Rs. 10,000 /- was imposed and realized as fine, for violation of section 26 (1) (2) (iv), 27 (3) (b) of Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006.
