Port Blair, Apr 19: During the recent visit of Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, PCC President to Campbell Bay, the general public of Campbell Bay and other nearby islands expressing their sincere thanks to the Lt. Governor for introducing chartered flight service between Port Blair and Car Nicobar requested Shri Sharma to place the transportation problem being faced by them before the LG for early consideration.
Accordingly, in his letter addressed to the Lt. Governor Shri. Sharma stated that Govt. servants as well as parents of school going children are interested to visit their home town during school vacation period for which they are required to reach Port Blair for their onward journey.
Therefore the chartered flight service between Port Blair and Car Nicobar be made twice in a week during the school vacation period considering inadequate boat/ship service in between Port Blair and southern group of islands.
Shri Sharma further urged that sailing of Chennai bond ships also be routed via Campbell Bay twice in a month for the benefit public intending to visit mainland during the school vacation. In such cases they are not required to come over to Port Blair for their onward journey to mainland, he added.
Shri Sharma also pointed out that at present Chennai based ships leave Chennai harbour during morning hours and reaches Campbell bay during night hours and the passengers are allowed to disembark only on next day morning. This creates much inconvenience and hardship to the general public. The PCC president urged the LG that the time of departure from Chennai be arranged at evening hours to ensure that the ships reaches Campbell Bay early morning so that the passengers could disembark without any delay.
