Port Blair, April 15: Along with the rest of the country, 125th birth anniversary of Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of Indian constitution, was celebrated at Gandhi Bhavan on Thursday. A large gathering of Congress workers and general public attended the function. The President, Pradesh Congress Committee, Mr Kuldeep Rai Sharma garlanded the portrait of Dr Ambedkar followed by floral tribute by all the leaders, PRI Members, supporters and general public.
In his address, Mr Sharma said that the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar is an occasion to recall his struggle for freedom and contribution in framing Indian Constitution and to reaffirm our commitment to the principles by Dr Ambedkar. He was a well-known politician and an eminent jurist and strived to eradicate the social evils like untouchability and caste restrictions were remarkable. Throughout his life, he fought for the rights of the dalits and other socially backward classes, he said.
