Port Blair, April 11: The Councillor, Ward no. 4, Smt E Rani has demanded constructed of a Fruit Market at Mohanpura Truck Stand. In a letter to the Chairperson and Secretary, PBMC, Smt Rani said that the civic body plans to remove the existing Fruit Market at Gandhi Market for construction of an office. “The Mohanpura Truck Stand area is ideal for construction of a Fruit Market and it is currently being used by anti-social elements for consuming liquor and gambling. Even sanitary workers of the Council have a tough time cleansing the area due to the menace of anti-social elements.
“Sanitary workers clear garbage from the area by 7 am. But within two hours, the area gets crammed with garbage. Roadside boozing has become rampant in the area due to the presence of an ANIIDCO Liquor outlet nearby. Mohanpura Truck Stand is in the heart of the city and it’s the duty of the Municipal Council to keep it clean and beautiful and construction of a Fruit Market at the location will be a right step in this regard,” said Smt Rani in the letter.
