Port Blair, April 05: More than 30-40 Anganwadi workers from different parts of the city met the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman on Monday to register their protest against non-disbursal of wages for services rendered in 2014.
The Anganwadi workers were employed in 2014 for various tasks related to the General Elections and recently for the NPR data collection, but grant of remuneration for the workers hangs fire till date.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha, the Anganwadi workers said that whenever employed by the District Administration they rendered services with total dedication. “But if the administration fails to notice our plight and hold-back our wages, we won’t tolerate. An earnest request has been made to the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman to release our pending wages immediately,” they said.
According to reports, the Anganwadi workers have served an ultimatum of 15 days for release of the wages failing which the aggrieved workers will take further decision on the future course of action.
The government has various laws to deal with employees who do not pay wages to workers on time but who will take action when the Administration holds back the due wages of poor employees.
